From our roots towards a sustainable future
Humanity has relied on wood processing since our earliest beginnings. Far from becoming obsolete, our oldest known resource has never been more popular! Its strength, durability and renewability have been widely known for centuries if not millennia. However, it was only in dealing with the challenges of our day and age that mankind began to appreciate just how invaluable it is to our survival and prosperity.
Wood has a smaller impact on our environment than other classical materials. The effects of wood as a water or air pollutant are much lower than other materials. Wood processing is highly energy efficient, which means that carbon emissions from wood production are half those of the production of brick, and up to 20 times lower than those of steel production. Wood products leave considerably less solid waste. Trees extract CO2 from the atmosphere and store carbon, which is around half of the dry weight of wood. Wood’s versatility means it can often substitute other, less energy-efficient, resources, thus further reducing our overall carbon footprint. Wood Plastix uses the wood of farmed European spruce, which can meet the same safety requirements regarding fire resistance as steel, for wooden subconstruction, while our plywood panels are made from the Siberian birch.
The presence of wood in our immediate environment, be it as furniture or construction material, positively affects us by reducing stress and anxiety. Since we are hardwired to associate wood with nature and outdoors, its presence in our home and working environment has a calming effect and stimulates positive social interactions. At Wood Plastix, we strive to bring these benefits to homes and work places. Check out our production programme!
